"Pura Vida" Costa Rica: expresión que representa el ser costarricense
Se dice que lo mejor de Costa Rica es su gente y creo que todos los ticos estamos de acuerdo con eso. Si bien es cierto que el respeto, caballerosidad, y alegría del tico ha ido decreciendo, aun se pueden encontrar verdaderos costarricenses en las calles. Gente feliz, respetuosa, servicial, lista para ayudar, gente de buen corazón y con un "pura vida" a flor de labios.
¿Pero que significa "pura vida"? En realidad, es un modo de vivir, es una manera de sobrellevar el diario vivir. Si le preguntan a un tico "cómo está?", él/ella le contestará "pura vida". No importa si está enfermo, si tiene problemas, etc., siempre dirá "pura vida". Esta frase definitivamente distingue a cualquier tico o persona que ha estado en Costa Rica de cualquier otra en el mundo. Cuando venga a Costa Rica, definitivamente tiene que aprender esta palabra que con seguridad le puedo decir no la encontrará en el diccionario. Solo los ticos de corazón, los que amamos y trabajamos por hacer de este país un ejemplo en el mundo, decimos "pura vida".

Además, los ticos somos orgullosos de esta frase. Incluso ha sido ligada en varias canciones, como por ejemplo la siguiente por Son de Tiquizia:

Posiblemente es por eso que Costa Rica es uno de los países más felices del mundo. A pesar de la cantidad de problemas sociales que tenemos, de los desastres naturales, de la corrupción de los políticos, continuamos levantándonos cada mañana, tomándonos una tacita de café y diciendo varias veces al día, “pura vida.”
¿Ustedes que opinan? ¿Qué creen que significa "pura vida"? Yo no soy persona experta en la materia, por lo que me gustaría escuchar su opinión.
"Pure Life" Costa Rica: Phrase that Depicts Costa Ricans
It is said that the best of Costa Rica is its people and I think all the Ticos would agree with that. While it is true that the Ticos’ respect, chivalry, and joy have been decreasing, you can still find true Costa Ricans on the streets. Happy, friendly, helpful people, ready to help, people with a good heart and with a “pura vida” (pure life) on their lips.
However, what does “pura vida” (pure life) mean? Actually, it is a way of life. It is a way to cope with daily life. If you ask a tico how s/he is doing, the answer would be “pura vida” (pure life). It really does not matter if you are under the weather, if you have problems, a Tico would always reply with a “pura vida” (pure life). This phrase definitely distinguishes ticos or any person who has been in Costa Rica from any other country. When you visit Costa Rica, you definitely have to learn this word, which by the way, you would possibly not find it in the dictionary. Ticos, the ones that love and work to make this country an example in the world, say “pura vida”.

Historically, it is said that the expression "pura vida" was taken from a Mexican movie. In the following clip from "Informe 11" (a Costa Rican news program devoted only to positive news broadcasted on Channel 11 at 9 pm) there is an explanation in Spanish about it with a bonus of the word "upe" too:

Perhaps that is why Costa Rica is one of the happiest countries in the world. Despite the many social problems we have, natural disasters, corruption of politicians, we continue getting up every morning, having a cup of coffee and saying several times a day, “pura vida”.
