Costa Rican Artists

Talented Costa Ricans

Celine Dion, Justin Bieber, The Guess Who, Barenaked Ladies, James Cameron, Bryan Adams, Jim Carrey, Michael Buble, the list is endless.  Where are all of them from?

If your answer is the US, you are wrong.

If you answered Canada, you are absolutely right.

Canada, according to Nations Online, is  "the largest country in the Western Hemisphere with 9,984,670 km2, and has given the world an immense number of fantastic entertainers.

Once I heard a great comment about Canada and its talented artists, saying that there must be something in the water in Canada to have so many artists.  And they are absolutely right.

Costa Rica, on the other hand, only has 51000 km2.  Nevertheless, talent is everywhere here too.

    Here are just two examples:

     1-
David Nick (La Prensa Libre)

David Nick might look just like any other Costa Rican teenager;  however, once you hear his voice, well, voices, you will be completely amazed.

The 19 year old who comes from a family of talented artists has an impressive talent.  His own voice is amazing and his impersonations of many famous singers is just as impressive.
David Nick has his own You Tube Channel and there you can see some of his videos.  Personally, I love "1 cantante, 20 voces."  Nevertheless, David Nick's own voice is just breathtaking.

You can see David Nick's amazing performances on Channel 7 (Sundays, 7 pm local time) on the very popular TV show "Tu Cara Me Suena."  He won the fourth show with his Adele impersonation.

2-  Sergio Morales Jaen:

Sergio Morales Jaen
A few decades ago I was a teacher at a  private school in San Jose.  I was teaching a fifth grade class and a new student arrived.  He was coming from the Japanese School and had just a little English, so I tutored for a short while.   He was a blast to talk to and extremely talented.  He was always polite, respectful, and helpful.  He would draw fantastically and loved singing.  It turns out that about three years ago I came across his name on FB.  I found out he was going to Spain to further his studies and then a few years after  I realized that Sergio Morales  is now a talented singer and guitarist.  The following video shows his talent and at the same time talks about one of the worst illnesses in Costa Rican culture, corruption.

You can see other videos and an interview in their You Tube Channel .

There's gotta be something in the water in Costa Rica.  lol
